# Pricing

API pricing is separate from the service subscription fee. For detailed pricing, see the [Bolta pricing page](https://bolta.io/pricing).

## Topping up credits

The Bolta API operates on a **prepaid credit deduction model**. Credits are deducted per API call, and if your balance is insufficient, the API call fails.

You can top up credits at the [Developer Center](https://developers.bolta.io) and start using the API right away, with no separate contract required.

<Warning>
  **Be sure to top up credits before calling the API with a live key.** If you call the live API with a credit balance of 0, the request fails. When using a test key (`test_`), no credits are deducted.
